Plum Goose is in the high-end lighting and furniture industry featuring multiple retail locations and showrooms based in Charlotte, NC. Although they did have an informational website like many retail stores, they weren’t taking advantage of the ever expanding eCommerce marketplace. The goal when looking at web design ideas for Plum Goose was to keep it looking clean and simple but still allow customers to navigate easily through nearly 30,000 products. This was accomplished by integrating a custom layered navigation feature, allowing customers to easily apply different filters to products in order to easily find what they are looking for. We are involved in a variety of roles with Plum Goose which are broken down below.
Due to the massive size of this eCommerce store we decided the best platform for this web design project was Magento. Magento is an open-source platform allowing for nearly endless customization and is able to support stores with tens of thousands of products. Plum Goose was initially launched in early 2014 on Magento 1. In 2016 we decided to make the switch over to the newly released Magento 2 which resulted in a massive migration over a 3 month period. Plum Goose is using the latest and greatest web technologies, and the website has surely benefited from this.
Initially the search engine optimization for Plum Goose was handled by a 3rd party, but we took over SEO for Plum Goose right around the time they decided to expand their retail operation to Charleston, South Carolina. Since that time their rankings have skyrocketed and sales have doubled from the previous year. Plum Goose now ranks on the 1st or 2nd page of Google for most of their keywords, as opposed to previously where they were ranking on page 5, 6, 7, or beyond.
Social Media/Email Marketing
We’ve been in charge of increasing the social media presence of Plum Goose since the initial launch, and we think the results have been excellent. Plum Goose boasts a very large social media following including over 7,000 fans on Facebook and 14,000 followers on Twitter. This type of reach helps boost engagement, drive traffic, and increase sales.
Not surprisingly, our content creation campaign started when we took over SEO responsibilities as these are directly correlated. We take pride in creating unique, engaging content that will provide value to all potential customers and help drive traffic and boost sales.
We launched the initial PPC campaign for Plum Goose solely on Adwords to help boost traffic while the site was still low in the rankings. Average clickthrough rates are over 10% for multiple campaigns and resulting sales have always outpaced cost.
